A Matter of Balance enables participants to reduce the fear of falling by learning to view falls as controllable. It includes group discussions, mutual problem solving, roleplay activities, exercise training, assertiveness training, and some homework assignments. The program runs as eight 2-hour sessions, once a week for 8 weeks or twice a week for 4 weeks, in a classroom setting with a group size of at least 8 participants; topics covered are physical activity and fall prevention, with desired outcomes of reduced risk of falls, increased physical activity, and self-efficacy. A virtual class option is also available.
