Long-term care (LTC) ombudsmen are advocates for resident rights who help protect the quality of life and quality of care of anybody who lives in a long-term care facility; ombudsmen are independent of any long-term care facility and address concerns including residents' rights violations, abuse, poor quality of care, improper transfer or discharge, and inappropriate use of restraints.
How to start
Residents and family should attempt to resolve issues directly with facility staff first; if the situation has not been resolved, call an ombudsman for guidance (H-GAC: 713-627-3200 / 888-926-1192). The ombudsman assesses the issue and recommends possible courses of action.
