Nonemergency Medical Transportation Program

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC)

Medicaid's nonemergency medical transportation benefit provides free rides to the doctor, dentist, hospital, or drug store and back home, including rides from contracted providers, mass transit fare, ground and airline transportation, and funds for eligible clients' meals and lodging.

How to start

Set up a medical appointment first, then schedule the ride at least two days in advance — clients in a Medicaid managed care plan get NEMT through their health plan; clients not in managed care receive it through the Medical Transportation Program (call 1-877-633-8747).
